Bahuchara Mata is an Indian Goddess worshiped in West and North India especially Gujrat and Rajasthan.Bahuchara Mata is regarded as Goddess of Fertility and is worshipped by childless couples who wish for a child.She is also worshipped by the transgenders or Hijras who atone for their sins and karma of past and present life. Bahuchara Mata is considered incarnation of Devi Parvati .She is shown as a beautiful goddess with the Trident Trishul in one hand and hindu scriptures on the other hand.She uses a rooster as a vehicle and roosters are considered dear to Her. Diwali is a festival of lights celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and many other communities. Diwali marks the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. During the five days of Diwali , people light up their houses with earthen lamps and lights to celebrate this auspicious day.

What Diwali Means

Diwali, Dipavali is derived from the Sanskrit word of Deepawali (दीप + अवलिः). 'Deep' means Lamps or Diyas and 'Awali' means line or row. This translates that Diwali means 'Row of Lights'.

Why Diwali is Celebrated

Diwali is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Ram, King of Ayodhya after defeating Ravana , Demon King of Lanka. The people of Ayodhya celebrated His return by lighting up earthen lamps and covering city under lights. This also ended Lord Ram's 14 years of exile on command of his father.

Ravana, the Demon King, abducted Lord Ram's wife Sita during their exile in the forests. This led Ram to fight with Ravana in alliance with the Vanaras .The battle ended in victory of Ram over Ravana and Hindus celebrate this day as Dusshera or Vijaydashmi. It took Ram 19 days to return to Ayodhya and Diwali comes 19 days after Dusshera.

Diwali is celebrated on the 15th day of the Karthik month of Hindu calendar. Diwali 2022 will be celebrated on 24 October, Monday. Diwali is a five day festival which will start from Saturday, October 22, 2022 with Dhanteras and will end on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 with Bhaidooj.

How Diwali is Celebrated

Diwali is a festival of lights. Before Diwali start people cleaning their houses. This also means a fresh start, purifying the surroundings and welcoming Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth. On first day of Diwali, Dhanteras people buy new clothes, jewelry ,utensils and other accessories. Rangolis which is a form of art or decoration done with colored sands or rice are also drawn to welcome God and Guests.





Diyas, candles are lighted up all around the house especially the doorways, balconies and galleries of the house. The name of Deepawali or row of lights can be seen in the line of these diyas.

People worship Lord Ganesh, God of God of prosperity who removes all the obstacles from their way.

Goddess Laxmi, Goddess of wealth to bless them with money and health.

Goddess Saraswati, Goddess of knowledge for wisdom.

After worshiping, Diwali is celebrated by burning fire crackers by children. This leads to air pollution in some parts and hence people refrain from burning them.




Sweets and delicious food are made and exchanged between neighbors and relatives. Gifts are also exchanged on this day.

Bhaidooj is last of Diwali, celebrated between siblings to symbolize love. Brothers and sisters gift each other on this day.

Where Diwali is Celebrated

Diwali is celebrated all around the world but majorly in India, Singapore and other Asian countries. The US, Canada and Australia also have large celebrations on Diwali due to large diaspora of Hindus in these countries.
